Allegations against Police Prosecutor for not attending Court hearings upheld

17 June 2025

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint alleging that a Police Prosecutor made inappropriate decisions about their own and another officer’s attendance at two different Court hearings, resulting in criminal cases being dismissed and adverse comments being made by the Judge.

It was also alleged that the prosecutor made poor decisions about travel paid for by Police to attend Court, including travelling to the location of the hearing when there was no longer any need to.

Police completed an employment process and found that the officer breached Police Values and the Code of Conduct in respect of one of the hearings. There were no concerns identified in respect of the second hearing.

The Authority agrees with these findings.
