Investigation into lead up to a crash after motorcycle driver failed to stop for Police

9 September 2024

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a motorcycle which crashed after being signalled to stop by an officer in Auckland.

An officer activated red and blue flashing lights and siren to signal a motorcycle to stop after seeing the two people riding it not wearing helmets. The motorcycle completed two U-turns before accelerating away. The officer did not pursue the motorcycle, which was soon found to have crashed into another vehicle. The driver of the motorcycle fled from the crash and was not located, while the passenger was found injured and was transported to hospital.

The Police investigation found the actions of the officer to be appropriate and that no breaches of Police policy were identified.

The Authority agrees with the findings of the investigation.
