Allegation of intimidating behaviour from Police towards 17-year-old in Central District

20 September 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that officers used intimidating and unprofessional language when arresting a 17-year-old for burglary and breaching a condition of his bail. Video footage of the arrest showed an officer repeatedly swearing at the young person, while presenting a Taser.

The Police investigation found the force used during the arrest was justified, as it was in response to the young person resisting arrest and kicking one of the officers. Police found that the attitude and language of the attending officers was undesirable.

The Authority agreed with the Police investigation findings and the employment outcomes for both officers.
