Police officer in Counties Manukau District investigated for family-harm incident

16 September 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation where an off-duty Police officer is said to have assaulted his ex-partner by grabbing her by the neck and forcing her face into a mattress aggravating an existing neck injury.

Following a thorough criminal investigation and legal advice Police determined that there was not sufficient evidence to successfully prosecute the officer.

Police looked at the employment aspect of the case and reached an appropriate outcome.

The Authority agrees that the actions Police took and the outcomes that resulted were reasonable.
