Officer should have declared wine on Police gifts register

6 October 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint by an organisation about an officer in Northland District. It was alleged he had inappropriately involved himself in the organisation's attempts to evict an employee, used Police resources inappropriately and accepted a gift of wine from one of the organisation's employees.

An employment investigation was conducted. There was either no or insufficient evidence to uphold any of the allegations apart from the receipt of wine. The officer acknowledged receiving six bottles of wine but believed he had received them as a gift because he had been unwell.

The officer received an appropriate employment process outcome.
