Review of Police actions prior to a motorcycle crash

20 April 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an incident in Wellington where Police responded to suspicious activity involving a motorcyclist. When they approached the rider to obtain their details, the motorcyclist sped off and subsequently crashed into another vehicle further down the road, resulting in the motorcyclist's death.

The Police investigation found the officers complied with Police driving policy at the time of the fleeing driver incident. The officers were not in pursuit and were not at fault or responsible for the rider's crash.

The Authority is satisfied with how the Police conducted their review of this incident and agrees with the outcomes reached.
