A credit card was used fraudulently to make significant purchases. The victim viewed the CCTV from one of the places the card had been used and identified the person using the card. The victim purchased a flash drive to download the footage but was told the footage could only be given to Police. Police collected the flash drive but after a long period of not making contact, told the victim they had lost the flash drive which meant they could not investigate the matter any further and had closed the file.
Discussion with the Authority led Police to apologise, reopen the investigation and reassign it to a different officer with a view to prosecuting if there is enough evidence.
