Off-duty officer investigated for unlawful hunting and a breach of the Health Act (COVID-19 Alert Level 3) Order 2020

29 December 2020

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation involving an off-duty officer from Southern District who allegedly participated in unlawful hunting on a rural property during COVID-19 Alert Level 3 restrictions. The investigation found the officer had not engaged in unlawful hunting. However, the officer did breach COVID-19 Alert Level 3 restrictions by travelling out of district to the rural property. Police have addressed this error in judgement with the officer.

The Authority is satisfied with how the Police conducted their investigation and the outcomes they reached.
