Allegation of excessive force - Southern

9 December 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that a Police officer in Southland used excess force when transporting a prisoner. An employment investigation was undertaken which determined that the officer had used excessive force by using a knee strike. Police also found the officer breached the Code of Conduct by not acting professionally and not demonstrating good judgment when dealing with the prisoner. The Authority agreed with the Police findings and an appropriate outcome was applied.
