Inappropriate behaviour by an off-duty officer in Dunedin

16 December 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint about the conduct of an off-duty officer drinking at a city centre bar.

Police conducted an employment investigation which established that after bar staff refused to serve the officer, he repeatedly challenged their competence to judge his intoxication. It found that he told staff he was a police officer and used his position to intimidate staff and threatened their licence, also saying he would be back with other officers. The investigation also concluded that he had pushed another patron when she objected to him filming her on his phone.

The Authority reviewed the Police investigation and agreed with the findings and the disciplinary outcome that followed.
