How the inquiry is being conducted

The Authority has established a dedicated investigative and legal team to conduct the inquiry.

Submissions are being sought, and the Authority is also conducting an audit of child abuse cases throughout New Zealand, investigating individual complaints about Police responses to child abuse allegations, and overseeing and directing Police investigations (see below).

The Authority will publicly report on its findings.

Associated Police investigations

In addition to the Authority’s inquiry, the Police are conducting separate investigations under the Authority’s oversight and direction.

These include a nationwide audit of child abuse cases to determine whether all Districts have responded appropriately to alleged child abuse, and a criminal investigation known as Operation Hope to clear a backlog of child abuse cases in the Wellington District.
