The Authority issues public documents across three broad areas: reports of investigations of Police conduct, practice, policy or procedure; reports of the monitoring and inspection of places of Police detention; and reports as required by statute, such as annual reports and statements of intent.

Use of Taser justified
14 March 2013 - An independent investigation has found that a Police officer was justified in using a Taser to arrest a man during an incident in Hornby, Christchurch, on 13 May 2010. Summary report (PDF, 348KB)
Police could have prevented death, independent report finds

Report on Police pursuit released
4 February 2013 - The Independent Police Conduct Authority has recommended that Police review and change their policies following a pursuit of a motorcyclist who suffered serious bodily harm, including a severe brain injury, when he crashed during a Police pursuit. In addition to the IPCA Act 1988, the Authority has international responsibilities under the Crimes of Torture Act 1989 to monitor places of Police detention, such as cells and vehicles. This is regarded by the Authority as quite distinct to its role handling complaints about Police conduct. more >>
